UST Architecture
(not.so.chill. 1st month in USTe)
Hi guys! I'm really grateful that I'm writing this right now. :) That means that today, I'm quite finish with my plates and I could rest a bit. Having this rest is already a gift when you're taking this course. What I'll write here is all based in my one month stay here in USTe. :D
So, what to expect in UST, BS Architecture?
1. PLATES and PROCRASTINATION:
-If your lucky your TOA prof won't give you plates but I'm not that lucky. (BTW, even if he gives plates, he's still cool). AD Plates would be challenging and fun at the same time. You'll get to design many kinds of buldings/ houses.
TOA- Theory of Architecture (this subject will teach you terms in architecture)
AD- Architectural Design(more on application and drawing + model making)
My first AD scale model (Plate). Concept: Twin sisters, beach house. |
-Procrastination is really annoying and a hobby for some of us. The question is, how to PREVENT procrastination when you're an arki student? For me, when you're given your plate, you must first conceptualize it and make the model the next day. Don't wait for it till it's a day before the deadline. I guarantee you won't sleep just doing that plate.
2. SLEEPLESS NIGHT (for only a night)
-Just 1 month of stay here in UST and I already have 1 sleepless night because 2 of my plates are due the next day. It's also because my TOA and AD class are both in the same day and unfortunately they're both requiring us to pass a plate a week after. BTW we're given 1 week to finish a plate :). Because of my foolishness and martyr-ness (haha) I used elmer's glue with my TOA plate. The objective of that plate is for us to use 100+ cotton buds to make any structure. I advice that if you'll have that plate, use glue gun. Less effort. And I made this plate a day before our submission so GG.
TOA 1st Plate. Clover shaped structure. |
3. EXPENSES
-Expect so many materials to be bought on your first month. Tech pen set, T-square, Bristol boards, cutting board, pencils, compass, etc..) The minimum expense is 5k :) I suggest that you bring packed lunch so that you could save your allowance.
-I always buy my materials a Joli's because the ATEs there are so kind and approachable.
3 J's- Joli's, Jomar's and Joyce's @ P. Noval. When you're climbing the stairs, you'll see them outside the window.

4. Rain. Flood.
-Every lunch time, if you'll buy your materials at Joli's or eat out, always bring an umbrella. Expect rain. Any time. Any day.
5. New Environment. Friends. Lunch Buddies.
-In a block, I think after a month, you'll find the friends that you'd be with the whole year. BTW, you'll be shuffled after a year. (parang summer class na hindi summer class,i forgot ano yung tawag) In our block, it's been almost a month that we didn't have an English teacher. So free skip! <3 We always hang in Starbucks (iTower, P. Noval). Also, we always bring lunch and eat in our room.
Free Skip- when the prof is not there 1/3 of the period. You could leave the class. But skip at your own risk.
My Starbucks buddies! <3 |
6. Bring JACKET.
-Why bring jacket when I have my coat? lol. I think every room in Beato is really cold. In our room, the aircon is unpredictable and in other rooms, my friend used to wear 3 coats. :) But there would be also days that the aircon is so hot. Just call manong downstairs. :)
7. Free Skip. Earlier dismissal.
-Other profs dismisses at an earlier time because his/her lecture is over. :) and it's raining outside.
8. Away from civilization.
-Every building is far away from Beato. Being in arki, you'd be away from your friends in med/accountancy/eng'g. BUHOOO. BTW, Beato is the only building where students could use 2 of the elevators. If it's rush hour, probably 7am, expect a line in the elev.
9. Food trip.
-FOOD TRIIIP is <3. You must try Mang Tootz, but expect a line because that place is featured in Kris TV. So... :) And Milk Teas everywhere!!!! Japanese cakes, isaw, taho, tori box, university scoop and etc... <3 Explore P. Noval!

Hope this helped! <3
